A world-class park in the heart of the Bayview

San Francisco’s newest waterfront park will deliver miles of winding shoreline trails, acres of restored tidal landscape and an abundance of recreation opportunities to the Bayview’s front porch. In an historic moment for environmental justice, the India Basin Project will transform a dilapidated relic of the industrial shipwrights’ era into a 21st-century park with an emphasis on public access, social equity, resiliency, and restoration.

India Basin Waterfront Park Project 2024 Progress Update

The India Basin Waterfront Park project partners, made up of the Trust for Public Land, San Francisco Parks Alliance, A. Philip Randolph Institute, and Bayview-Hunters Point community, are proud to share our progress report for the project as we near the opening of the first half of the park.

The report gives an update on where we are in the construction and highlights our work implementing the project's Equitable Development Plan. The landmark plan, a first for San Francisco, ensures this waterfront park will benefit current Bayview-Hunters Point residents while preserving the culture and identity of the historic neighborhood. It provides a blueprint for delivering a park designed by and for the community while improving economic opportunity and environmental health for its residents.

Highlights include the graduation of 16 community members from the project's workforce development program, the Bayview Safety Swim and Splash program helping more than 100 youth participants become water safe, the opening of the Community Innovation Lab at India Basin Shoreline Park and much more!
